Here are some of my favorite weather pictures! - Enjoy!
Ah, Winter! The season of rest. Gone are the days of oppressive heat, annoying dust, pollen, allergies, tornado warnings and thunderstorms, loud lawn mowers and leaf blowers, bugs, bees and relentless mowing of the sometimes green grass. No more fertilizing the lawn, no more weed-eating (why would anyone wish to eat them?), no more pulling of the thistle from the garden and yard, no more clover, no more dandelions. Just rest - sweet rest which is a great thing when you have so many other non-yard-care-related obligations to fullfill through the week!
Ok, I like Winter! it's my season. I can sit inside by a warm fire enjoying a nice cup of coffee or cappicino and watch the snow fall gently and quietly to the ground. It is truly a time of peace and tranquility and I will always prefer it above all other seasons. The cold suits me because I am no longer melting in the outdoors and the beauty of it all is breath taking. Yes, I do have to shovel some snow now and then - but not if we get enough of it! So, here are some of my favorite views of Winter around our house. I will enjoy looking at them in the Summer too as I prepare once more to do battle with the lawn.
20JAN06
Well, it's been a while since I updated our weather pages but here's some more snow pictures. Big one coming in tonight with possibly 8-9" before morning. Fun fun.
A bunch of boys out playing in the snow tonight....
It's coming down fast tonight!
The next
morning (21JAN06), it looked like this
in our backyard....

Shelties..... LOVE.... the snow (and licking their noses!)

22JAN06 - The Fog Comes!
Well, last night, a dense fog set in (and it's supposed to happen again tonight). As a result, when we awoke in the morning, we found that the trees, bushes and everything were coated in a thin coating of ice from the fog that froze on the branches! It was beautiful as you (hopefully) can see in these photos.......

31JAN02
The morning after last night's 10"+ snow! - it snowed all afternoon yesterday, then it snowed all night and late into the night we started to receive sleet in with the snow. So, it was a crunchy cold mess this morning. During the night there was a very loud explosive sound - apparently thunder that rang out for several seconds. Snow thunder is a very rare condition due to the cold but I have heard it one other time - while skiing on Vail mountain in Colorado during a blizzard. Note the neighbor's car below - that's what happens if you park on the street and the snow plow comes through - it's burried! The snow plow I saw last night wasn't a truck with a blade on the front. It was a 4 wheel tractor (commercial quality) with a big blade on the front and large knobby tires. He needed them!
(Last night the forecast said: expecting 1-4 inches during the day, 4-8 inches this evening, 1-4 inches tomorrow! Well, this is what it looked like during the peak of the action.
If you look closely you can see the snow coming down under the street light!
